Why these games work

Grounded in decades
of neuroscience research

Every game in this series is directly adapted from validated neuropsychological experiments used in research labs worldwide.

01

Real experiments, not gimmicks

Each game is based on a published neuropsychological task — the Stroop Test, WCST, BART, and more — with decades of peer-reviewed research behind them.

02

Measurable outcomes

Every game includes a scoring system and tracking log so you can measure performance across sessions — not just play, but genuinely observe cognitive change over time.

03

Accessible to everyone

The same game works in a research lab, a primary school classroom, and a senior centre — with audience-specific guidance for each context built into every game sheet.

Who it's for

Every mind is worth
understanding

These games are designed to work across very different contexts — with specific guidance tailored to each audience.

Experiment 01 Inhibitory Control

Color Conflict

Say the ink color while ignoring the word. Based on the Stroop Effect — one of the most replicated findings in cognitive psychology. Deceptively simple, surprisingly hard.

Experiment 02 Emotion Recognition

Emotion Detective

Identify emotions from facial expressions. Tests the brain's social perception circuitry — from the amygdala to the fusiform face area.

Autism Depression Social Anxiety

Experiment 03 Working Memory

Sequence Recall

Memorise and reproduce sequences of symbols in order. Tests working memory span — your brain's mental whiteboard.

ADHD Learning Disabilities Aging

Experiment 04 Cognitive Flexibility

Rule Switch

Sort cards by rules that change without warning. Based on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test — the gold standard measure of frontal lobe function.

Experiment 05 Risk Evaluation

Balloon Risk Game

Draw cards to earn coins — but one hidden card ends it all. Based on the BART, one of the most reliable predictors of real-world risk behaviour.

Questions

Frequently asked

Are these games scientifically validated?
Each game is directly adapted from validated neuropsychological tasks used in peer-reviewed research. The Stroop Test, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, and Balloon Analogue Risk Task have decades of published research behind them. Our card adaptations preserve the core cognitive demands of each task while making them accessible for non-laboratory settings.
Can these games diagnose conditions like ADHD?
No — these games are not diagnostic tools. They are educational and observational instruments. Performance patterns can be interesting and informative, but a clinical diagnosis always requires a qualified professional. If you notice persistent patterns of concern, we encourage you to consult a healthcare provider.
How do I print the cards?
Each download includes a print-ready card sheet formatted for standard A4 or Letter paper. Cards are poker size (2.5" × 3.5") and print 9 per page with cut guides. We recommend printing on 160–200gsm card stock for best results. A standard home or office printer works fine.
Is this suitable for use in a research setting?
Yes, with some caveats. These card adaptations preserve the core cognitive demands of each validated task but lack the precise timing control of computerised versions. They are well-suited for pilot studies, qualitative research, classroom demonstrations, and low-resource settings. For quantitative research requiring millisecond precision, computerised versions remain the standard.
How often should sessions be played?
For cognitive training effects, research suggests 3–5 sessions per week over 4–6 weeks shows measurable improvement in most working memory and attention tasks. For tracking purposes, monthly sessions are sufficient to observe meaningful changes over time. Each game includes a tracking log designed for up to 10 sessions.
Are more games coming?
Yes — this pilot set of 5 games covers inhibitory control, emotion recognition, working memory, cognitive flexibility, and risk evaluation. The full catalog includes 30 games spanning attention, spatial memory, decision making, social cognition, and more. New games will be added regularly.
